Iraq, an appeal by German engineers broadcast by Al Jazeera
BAGDAD – The two German engineers abducted in Iraq last Tuesday launched an appeal to the German government to do everything possible for their release, in a video message obtained from ‘Al Jazeera’. The German television ‘Ard’ affirms this.
The video was broadcast this morning by Al Jazeera. The two hostages turn to the camera talking in German and, after reporting their names, ask the German government to make every effort to release them.
The two engineers were kidnapped by a group of armed men three days ago in Baiji, about 200 kilometers north of Baghdad. The two hostages worked in a chemical factory inside an industrial complex that surrounds the Baiji refinery, the largest in Iraq. The two men were taken inside the area. Another German managed to escape the kidnapping.
The Foreign Ministry of Germany follows the situation through the crisis unit.
