One dead and dozens injured: six serious
Switzerland – The “Glacier express” glacier train derailed this morning near a viaduct between Lax and Fiesch, in the upper Valais: one person died and another 42 were injured, according to the Swissinfo agency. Six passengers are in serious condition.
On board there were numerous Asian tourists. The Swiss agency reports that the rescue operations are made difficult by the inaccessible territory in which the accident took place. Numerous helicopters, ambulances and representatives of the police and fire brigades have rushed to the scene for the first intervention.
The dynamics of the accident are still unclear: the train had left Brig and was bound for Oberwald. To get off the tracks would have been the last three carriages.
