The army attacks opponents
at least 40 killed in Sana’a

SANA’A – Massacre in the night in Yemen. The army has attacked in force the garrison of the opponents in “square of the change”, in the capital Sana’a and on the ground, the bodies without life of at least 40 people have remained. There are dozens of wounded. Here the citizens who oppose President Ali Abdallah Saleh have camped since January and demand the resignation of the president. The action of the armed forces came a few hours after Saleh returned home after a three-month convalescence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where he had been hospitalized because he was injured in an attack against the presidential palace. Yesterday, Saleh had called for a truce in the violent clashes that pitted his supporters and opponents in Sana’a, in view of a “negotiated” solution of the political impasse in the Arab country.

Mohammed Al-Qabati, a doctor from the field hospital organized in the middle of the square for eight months, pointed out that among the victims there are civilians and soldiers of the first armored division of General Ali Mohsen al-ahmar, who sided with the opponents and took position around the square to protect the protesters.
