USA, building collapses in Philadelphia: six dead
PHILADELPHIA – Six people lost their lives and 14 were badly injured in the collapse of a demolishing building in downtown Philadelphia. The death toll was provided by Mayor Michael Nutter.
The four-story building, which was deserted, suddenly came down at around 10.45 am local time. An avalanche of debris has invested in particular a store of used clothing of the Salvation Army in an adjacent building. The people involved were mostly in that shop, or on the sidewalk in front. The causes of the collapse are not yet clear.
“There was a great roar, then a great cloud of dust rose and the earth began to tremble. I heard people screaming, others running, I helped some of them and then after a few minutes the fire brigade arrived”, an eyewitness told CNN. “The force of the collapse has made all the buildings vibrate, people have fled,” the boy interviewed added.
