China: goodbye to the ‘one child policy’, you can have 2 children

In China it will be possible to have two children: after 30 years, the decision taken by the Chinese authorities revolutionizes the ‘one-child policy’ adopted to control the demographic growth of the most populous country in the world. Currently, the law prohibits couples from having more than one child. However, there are exceptions such as for ethnic minorities or ‘rural’ couples whose first child is a girl. The ‘one-child policy’ was introduced in China a few years after the death of Mao Tse-tung, from Deng Xiao Ping in 1979.

The Chinese supreme court has declared itself for the abolition of the re-education and labor camps. The two historic decisions, taken in November, were formalized after the approval of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (ANP),
