Final Champions, the cup has arrived but the stadium is a construction site: San Siro supervised special

The Champions Cup arrived in Milan, welcomed at Palazzo Marino in the large Alessi Room. In the first row Giuliano Pisapia, the Councilor for Sport Chiara Bisconti, Barbara Facchetti, the Figc director Michele Uva, the counterpart of the Serie A League Marco Brunelli, the former referee Roberto Rosetti and the football glories of Inter and Milan: Javier Zanetti, Demetrio Albertini and Franco Baresi. The symbol of the Champions League final, scheduled for May 28 at the San Siro, is ready to be admired by the Milanese and raised by the captain of the winning team: Real, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich or Manchester City. The stage of the very party is still a construction site. The watchword is that the “chrono-program” will eventually be respected . The problem is that over the months the line has been continuously moved forward. 35 days after the final, work continues to deliver the plant to UEFA on May 18: “The works are constantly monitored – a Nyon spokesman reiterates – we are sure that the stadium will be delivered in good time before the event”. From May 15th, UEFA delegates will move permanently to Milan. For now they carry out inspections of a few days and follow the progress of the works with continuous phone calls to Inter, Milan and the Municipality. The sector with the most delay is the first orange ring: the two new 500-seat executive areas need to be completed, one and also the corresponding access tunnels to the stands. According to current forecasts, this intervention will be completed on April 30th. Basically, it will be only in this portion of the stadium that new bars will be built.

The modernization of the bathrooms has been completed, which is necessary in particular for the third ring (but there are still long lines during the Inter and Milan matches). Off the barriers from the first ring: only one-meter and 10-centimeter mini-partitions will remain, approved by UEFA. Instead, it is impossible to eliminate the barriers that delimit the curves of the Nerazzurri and Rossoneri ultras. The police did not give the green light because this would have meant to have the last days of the championship disputed with the hottest fans without containment. The reasoning of the police is even more understandable considering that the last round (15 May) foresees Milan-Rome. After the end of the championship, the safety nets placed in front of the two sectors of the third ring will be removed to avoid throwing objects:

The paving of the walkways around the stands is being redone, the reception of the media remains to be completed: a new press stand with 900 seats is planned, the same number of media-center stations that will be built outside the stadium for journalists throughout the world. Welcoming also for sponsors and VIPs with tensile structures in the area of the former Trotto to guarantee institutional hospitality with 9,500 seats.

The meeting areas for the two supporters will be in Piazza Duca d’Aosta and Pagano. The village instead will be in the center between Piazza Duomo and the Castle. The large area of the Palazzetto collapsed in 1985 was recovered, close to the San Siro parking lots. The area will be destined to “green” with trees and gardens (in ten years it will be dedicated to Cesare Maldini). For

the final, thanks to the installation of benches, can be used as a relaxation area for the two supporters. The figures are considerable: 200 million people will watch the game on TV, the induced for Milan will amount to 60 million euros, thanks to this assignment Italy becomes the European country to have hosted several Champions Cup / Champions League finals: 9, one more than Germany. Now only San Siro is missing. It is not a secondary detail.
