Boris Johnson’s trip to Italy becomes an accident
LONDON – Worn, sleepy, with wrinkled clothes and above all without an escort. This is how the then British Foreign Minister and today Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, presented himself at the San Francesco D’Assisi airport in Perugia on 29 April 2018. The photos were taken by the Guardian by some anonymous passengers who traveled or took selfies with him that day. But what was Boris Johnson doing in Perugia, and in those conditions?
Still according to the Guardian, the evening before Johnson would have been, without the security escort and against the suggestions of his collaborators, at a party at the castle of Palazzo Terranova, near the Umbrian capital, organized by the Russian millionaire Yevgeny Lebedev, who in the Kingdom owns the Evening Standard and Independent media. It is not known with whom, how he got there and what Boris did at one of Lebedev’s often wild parties, but certainly the day before he had attended a meeting in Brussels with the American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after the poisoning by Sergej Skripal in Salisbury, for which Russia’s involvement is strongly suspected.
According to the testimonies of passengers collected by the British newspaper, “Johnson was staggering, he seemed about to collapse”, “he was without baggage, he had his clothes wrinkled as if he had slept dressed”, to someone he would have revealed “I had a heavy evening”, before to fall asleep in a corner. Beyond the impression left, the problem is that he was Foreign Minister, in those conditions and without any protection, in such a delicate moment after the Skripal case. A behavior that does not appear very responsible, given the contrary opinion of his staff on his trip to Perugia.
