Canada, truck against crowd: 5 injured. Police: “It’s terrorism”

Canadian police investigate “as acts of terrorism” two events that took place in the city of Edmonton, capital of the State of Alberta, in which at least five people were injured. The first attack, last night, against a policeman by a person in whose van a flag of the Islamic State was later found. According to the Edmonton police, the incident occurred at 8.15 pm local time, when an agent controlling a football match was hit by a high-speed vehicle. The driver then left the vehicle and attacked the policeman, stabbing him, before escaping on foot. The agent’s wounds are not serious.

The police investigate the case of four people hit by a van just before midnight as terrorism. “The van quickly left the area and was chased,” investigators said. According to the police, the van “deliberately tried to overwhelm pedestrians”. The driver, who according to initial information acted alone, was then arrested. This is a 30-year-old man.

• ISIS FLAG
A flag of the ISIS was found on board the used truck, said the city police chief, Rod Knecht, quoted by NBC. “We believe he acted alone,” added the manager, without, however, excluding the possibility that other people are involved.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemns the attack: “Canada will not allow violent extremism to take root. Early reports indicate that this is another example of hatred against which we must remain vigilant,” he said, stressing that “the strength of Canada derives from our diversity and we will not be scared by those who want to divide us and promote fear “
