“Retaliation but not against ordinary people”

MOSCOW – Moscow will adopt “concrete and adequate” retaliations against London for the expulsion of its diplomats, but that “will not affect ordinary people and entrepreneurs”. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko said so. 

Britain has ordered the expulsion of four Russian diplomats , accredited to the Russian embassy in London, following Moscow’s refusal to extradite Andrei Lugovoi, the main suspect in the killing of the former KGB colonel Aleksandr Litvinenko. 

In a press conference dedicated to illustrating the retaliatory measures that Russia intends to take against London, Grushko asked the European Union to “not politicize the Lugovoi case”. “Great Britain will appeal to the instruments of solidarity within the framework of the European Union, as can be deduced from official statements. We hope that common sense will prevail in the EU and that its members will not yield to attempts to transform relations between Russia and the EU in an instrument for unilateral political purposes and which has nothing to do with the interests of the two partners “.
