US sources: “Bin Laden’s son killed in Pakistan by a drone”

WASHINGTON – Saad bin Laden, one of Osama bin Laden’s sons, may have been killed in an American air strike in Pakistan earlier this year, probably in January. This was announced by the American public radio NPR, without specifying the exact location of the bombing. The news was picked up by the Israeli daily Haaretz and the German DPA agency.

The probability that Saad bin Laden, about 20 years old and third son of the head of al Qaida, was killed in the missile attack carried by a drone (unmanned plane) fluctuates between “80 and 85%”, said a senior American counter-intelligence officer on the radio.

In January 2009, the US Treasury Department froze Saad bin Laden’s assets on the suspicion of belonging to the al Qaeda terrorist network.
