Fictitious assumptions to the Paris City Council the former President Chirac indicted

PARIS – Former French President Jacques Chirac has been indicted in connection with the phantom recruitment dossier to the City of Paris.

Jacques Chirac, 76, was indicted on 21 November 2007 for “taking away public money” and “abusing power” in connection with the fictitious recruitment of some collaborators by the Municipality when he was mayor of the capital, between 1983 and 1995. The accusations, in particular, concern 21 contracts that the former president and his collaborators would have created specifically for “politically useful” people to Chirac.

In a note released by his press office, the former head of state declares that he “acknowledged this decision” and was “calm and determined to prove before the court that none of the incriminated jobs was a fictitious job”. It is the first time in France that a former head of state has to face charges of this kind.
