Mission accomplished: the Settebello takes the ticket for Rio 2016. And so the Italy of water polo, which had already qualified the Setterosa, will be able to count on both the blue national teams at the Brazilian Olympic Games.

For the men of the Campaign it was decisive the success for 8-7 (2-0, 2-3, 3-3, 1-1) on Romania, in the quarters of the pre-Olympic tournament in Trieste which assigns the last four passes for the five-circle review.

And with the qualification in his pocket, tomorrow’s semi-final against Spain only became important for statistical purposes.

SETTEBELLO AT THE GAMES UNDER THE EYES OF MALAGO ‘ – In the pool of the Julian federal center the last obstacle that separated the Blues from Rio, in fact, was the national team led by Stanojevic. A difficult opponent overcome thanks to Di Fulvio’s goals (tonight’s double), which takes only 21 ″ to unlock the match, and Baraldi, Luongo, Aicardi, Presciutti and Figlioli (2).

For the Romanians, instead, Gheorghe (3), Ghiban (2), Radu and Negrean have scored. The qualification, which was also attended by the president of CONI Giovanni Malagò together with the president of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Debora Serracchiani, assures the Settebello of his twentieth Olympic participation (never absent from London ’48).

DOUBLE DECISIVE OF CHILDREN, TEMPESTI CAN LIVE THE FIFTH OLYMPIA – For the Azzurri, however, it was not at all a simple match, particularly for Tempesti, who in Rio has the opportunity to be the first goalkeeper ever to live his fifth Olympiad (equaling, in the number of participations in the Games, another blue like Gianni De Magistris), who in the second fraction can do nothing on the close networks of Ghiban and Gheorghe.

Italy tries to shake with Di Fulvio and Aicardi, but Romania does not give up and, in the middle of the third period, first shortens with Radu and Negrean and then draws with Ghiban. To bring back the Azzurri, at the end of the penultimate stage, Figlioli thinks about it, but the guests return in a tie, again with Gheorghe and armor the door with Tic. But seven seconds from the end Figlioli scored the goal that decides the match, giving his own the Olympic dream.

PROMOTED BY RIO ALSO HUNGARY, SPAIN AND FRANCE – The blue success comes at the end of a day in which the most important verdicts had already been issued: with Hungary, Spain, France arriving at the Games after passing respectively Germany, Canada and Holland.

Italy is the last promoted by the Trieste pre-Olympic and, together with the other three national teams, it is added to Australia, Brazil, Croatia, Greece, Japan, Montenegro, Serbia and the USA, already qualified for Rio.

There are still two Italian teams competing for the Games: that of women’s volleyball which, from 14 to 22 May, will play the pre-Olympic in Japan and that of men’s basketball which, instead, will be played their chance from 4 to 9 July, in front of to the public friend of Turin.
