Sudan, clashes between police and students
One dead and at least five wounded

KHARTOUM – A student would have died in Sudan from his injuries after being beaten by security forces, who forcibly suppressed protest demonstrations inspired by those that exploded in neighboring Egypt. Some protesters report it.

The protests continued throughout last night and many students from the University of Khartoum were repulsed with tear gas inside the dormitories. At least five, according to activists, the young people injured. Some witnesses report that the police surround the universities in Khartoum and other cities. “You are our martyr, Mohammed Abdelrahman”, is written on Facebook, on a group called ‘Youth for Change’ which counts more than 16.

Three activists told Reuters that Abdelrahman, a student at Omdurman Ahaliya University, died Sunday in hospital due to injuries sustained in the clashes. “Medical sources have confirmed to us that the student died yesterday from injuries inflicted by security forces,” confirmed Yasir Arman, a senior official in the main party of southern Sudan, the Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM). The University of Omdurman Ahaliya, where the repression took place, was closed by security forces.
