SHANGHAI – The Sports Arbitration Tribunal (Tas) has confirmed the admonition for Brazilian swimmer Cesar Cielo, Olympic in the 50 free style, which will not be disqualified for the positivity to furosemide, a diuretic. The TAS has rejected the appeal presented by the international swimming federation (Fina), who had asked for a three-month stop, and confirmed that the only sanction against the athlete is the admonition imposed by the Brazilian company.
Same verdict for 2 other positive swimmers for the same substance: only a warning for Nicholas dos Santos and Henrique Barbosa. The fourth athlete involved in the affair, Vinicus Waked, was instead disqualified for a year. In this case the recidivism also weighed: Waked had already been suspended for 2 months in 2010.
