United States, Obama challenges California:

“No to ban on gay marriage”

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration has asked the Supreme Court to revoke the ban on gay marriages in California, a ban that “violates the rights” provided by the Constitution.

The position taken by the White House is in a document presented for a case that will be discussed on March 26th and which concerns Proposition 8: the 2008 referendum that provides for civil partnerships between homosexuals with equivalent rights to those of marriage, although excluding that these couples can marry.

A rule, according to the Obama administration, which violates the XIV amendment, one of those introduced after the civil war and the abolition of slavery,

This position, if passed by the court, will have effect not only in California but also in seven other states that have the same position against gay marriages, namely Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Nevada and Oregon.

And while the White House presented its document to the Supreme Court, an endorsement for a homosexual marriage also arrived from Clint Eastwood, which confirms its nature as an unorthodox republican. The actor and director have signed a petition – precisely to the Supreme Court for the case that will be discussed on March 26.

Eastwood, although calling himself in favor of a gay wedding, had so far argued that there were more important things to think about in the country, trying – unsuccessfully – to keep the topic out of the last election campaign.
