Arrested 17 years old, planning a massacre at school

NEW YORK – No childhood toys under the bed for 17-year-old Grant Acord, but six napalm bombs and other explosives building materials. A real small arsenal with which the young man wanted to blow up his school, the West Albany High School, setting up a plan he had been working on for some time inspired by the Columbine high school massacre,  to then commit suicide.

The boy, despite his 17 years, will be treated as an adult. Against him the charge of attempted aggravated murder, but also that of possession of “destructive devices”, after the discovery of at least six bombs in the house. “The charge of attempted aggravated murder requires that it be demonstrated that significant steps have been taken to complete the crime. In this case we will rely on the evidence gathered for the implementation of the plan, such as diagrams, explosive devices and weapons to implement an action to emulate Columbine, “says Benton County attorney general, John Haroldson. “We were lucky. When I saw the bombs, I just trembled at the thought of what might have happened if the plan had been implemented,” highlights Haroldson.

The authorities went back to Acord after receiving anonymous information denouncing the production of a bomb by the boy and his intention to target the school. The scene in which the police found themselves at the boy’s house “was so serious that he had to request the intervention of the bomb squad,” highlights the Albany police captain, Eric Carter.

According to the authorities there are currently no indications of 17-year-old school difficulty. “In cases like this – highlights Haroldson -, when you have a guy in front of you who wants to kill people with a video game approach, it’s obvious that you need to look at possible mental problems”. Accords could be summoned to court Tuesday.
