A former Russian spy, the poisoning occurred through the front door

LONDON – The contact with the nerve agent that reduced the ex-Russian spy Sergej Skripal and his daughter Yulia to his death occurred by touching the front door of the Salisbury house. The maximum concentration of the toxic substance was in fact found right on the door. The BBC reports this, citing sources from Scotland Yard. Thus, the hypotheses put forward in recent weeks of a presence of the chemical in the suitcase brought by Moscow by Yulia or in the ventilation system of the car used that day seem to fall.

It is not known whether the toxic substance was found in a liquid or solid state. Those responsible for counter-terrorism have specified that the investigations continue, now focused around the house in Skripal, in a residential area of Salisbury (southern England), that the controls in the surroundings are only precautionary and that 250 agents continue to work on the ground . Investigators also confirmed that at this stage the risk for the city community should be considered “low”.

Sergej and Yulia Skripal, 66 and 33, felt ill on March 4th a few hours after leaving home for lunch and collapsed on a park bench in a commercial area of the historic English town. Both remain in hospital, sedated, in conditions defined as “critical, but stable”. However, pessimism among relatives and friends prevails over the hopes of some recovery.

Meanwhile, the violent diplomatic clash between Moscow and London continues. For Russia the Skripal affair is “a huge political provocation” and there are extremes to see the hand of “British special services”. Now it’s up to London to prove otherwise. Otherwise Russia will consider the whole affair “an attack on the life of its fellow citizens”. While Premier Theresa May praised US President Donald Trump for the decision to expel as many as 60 Russian diplomats and shared his appreciation for the expulsions decided by 26 countries, the Kremlin has ensured that his response “will come in due course “and that everything will be organized in a way that” respects Russia’s interests “. There is no hurry for the Kremlin. The situation on the other hand is constantly changing.
