Euro per peak (0.9059) ECB raises rates (+ 0.25%)

FRANKFURT – Without End. The fall of the euro shows no signs of slowing down. The single currency now touches a new record low against the dollar at 0.9059. The dollar is therefore now worth around 2,136 lire. Also today, the ECB has revised rates by a quarter of a point, taking them from 3.50 per cent to 3.75 per cent. The European Central Bank took the decision, the fourth soaring from November to today, at the end of the meeting of the Council of Governors. And it also increased the rate corridor with limits set at 2.75 per cent (on deposits) and 4.75 per cent (on loans). Despite this, however, the single European currency did not hint to recover, on the contrary. After going down, following the publication of US economic data, the European currency seemed able to recover. But it was an illusion of little duration. The Euro also continued to lose ground against sterling and yen and closed at $ 0.9059. In short, a super dollar, a mini-currency, and a rate maneuver that once again proves to be completely ineffective. It is too cautious with respect to the expectations of the operators, who expected a stronger rise, in the order of half a point. However, the ECB has once again chosen the middle ground, deciding on a rise that the markets took for granted.
